Understanding Quotations vs. Damp Surveys

Why a Quotation Isn't the Same as a Damp Survey

It’s important to know that a quotation isn’t a replacement for a professional damp survey. A quotation simply covers the cost of treatment, assuming the cause of damp has already been properly diagnosed. However, damp issues are often misidentified, and without a thorough survey, treatments may be ineffective or even unnecessary—leading to further problems and extra costs.

Damp can be caused by a range of issues, each requiring a different approach. For example, adding a damp-proof course and re-plastering won’t fix dampness caused by a leaking pipe or a blocked drain. Without correctly pinpointing the source, there’s a risk of spending money on solutions that won’t fully resolve the issue.

That’s why we recommend a damp survey if the cause of damp is uncertain. Our survey service helps identify the exact problem so we can offer the right solution—saving you time, money, and the stress of recurring damp issues.

Why a Timber Survey is Important for Woodworm & Rot Issues

When dealing with woodworm or fungal decay, we always recommend a professional survey to determine whether the issue is active or historic. Not all woodworm infestations require treatment—if the woodworm is inactive, there’s often no need for intervention, which could save you unnecessary costs.

A paid survey provides a thorough assessment, confirming whether treatment is genuinely needed. This way, you can make an informed decision and avoid spending money on unnecessary work.

If you already know for certain that the woodworm is active or that you have a rot issue, we’re happy to provide a free quotation for treatment. However, if there’s any doubt, a survey is the best way to ensure you get the right advice and the most effective solution for your timber.

Our treatment recommendations will always be based on the diagnosis we receive.

We’ll walk you through some of the common issues and damp sources that can be identified during the inspection, ensuring you understand what to look for when buying a property.

Damp staining on chimney breasts, walls, and ceilings is a common issue in many homes. Even after repairing the chimney stack externally, you might still notice persistent damp stains. But why does this happen? In this video, we explain the main causes of chimney breast damp, what leads to staining, and how to address the problem effectively.
